Christina Pappas
As a non-traditional career changer, Christina Pappas set off on a new path after taking one course through Greenville Technical College’s Economic Development and Corporate Training Division.
“Whether your career change is for personal satisfaction, changing budget requirements, or a different work-life balance, it’s worth staying adaptable.”
First Journey Stop:
Greenville Technical College
Because Christina wanted to make a career change and join a company she could retire with, she decided to take one non-credit course – Manual Machine General Shop Basics – at Greenville Technical College while working a full-time job.
“One course at GTC in a skilled trade made all the difference in me exploring my potential. By participating in the Quick Jobs program, I was able to build my knowledge and confidence up to a competitive level in no time.”
Second Journey Stop:
GTC’s Center for Manufacturing Innovation
Christina’s positive experience in her non-credit course led to her smooth transition into the academic program as a non-traditional career changer.
“Through a job fair held at the Center for Manufacturing Innovation, I had the opportunity to network and ultimately apply for an apprenticeship that will further develop my specialized skills in advanced manufacturing.”
Third Journey Stop:
Magna International
GTC’s Experiential Learning program provides direct support of Christina’s apprenticeship with Magna International, a global automotive supplier.
“I have found a company that thrives with employees that have a learner’s mindset.”
Where will Christina go next?
Christina will proudly graduate from GTC with her Associate Degree in Machine Tool Technology this fall. Professionally, she looks forward to maintaining a career in the field. Personally – and because her apprenticeship allows her to be versatile with production and maintenance, including hand-skills and tool-making – she looks forward to building an art studio focused on engraving and printmaking.
